Chaos erupted at the Abundant Life Assemblies of God Church in Bohyen-Adumanu, Kumasi on June 23, 2024, as violence marred the induction ceremony of a new pastor.
Protesting members clashed with security forces as the church’s regional head defied opposition to induct the new pastor.
The induction ceremony was held amidst tight security, with armed personnel deployed to maintain order. However, the presence of security personnel did little to calm the situation, as protesting members continued to vent their anger and frustration.
Videos circulating online show chaotic scenes of demonstrating members and onlookers shouting “Ei Asore mpo nie” (We disagree). The incident has sparked heated debate on social media, with many condemning the violence and division within the church.
The protesting members have accused the church leadership of imposition and disregard for the congregation’s concerns. They claim that the new pastor was forced on them without their input or consent.
The church leadership, on the other hand, has maintained that the induction was done in accordance with the church’s constitution and procedures.
The incident has raised questions about the governance and leadership of the church, with many calling for a resolution to the crisis and a return to peace and harmony within the church.
