BREAKING: Ghana Abolishes E-levy Finally

Ghana’s Parliament has officially passed the Electronic Transfer Levy Repeal Bill 2025, marking the end of the controversial E-Levy on digital transactions.

The bill, spearheaded by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, was swiftly approved and now awaits President John Mahama’s final assent.

This move fulfills Mahama’s campaign promise to scrap the levy within 120 days of taking office, achieving it in under 90 days.

Many Ghanaians, particularly mobile money users and small businesses, have welcomed the repeal, citing relief from excessive transaction costs.

Economic analysts believe this could spur digital financial transactions and boost business confidence.

However, questions remain about how the government plans to recover the revenue lost from the levy’s removal.

As the nation adjusts, the focus now shifts to alternative revenue strategies to sustain Ghana’s economy.
