Guinness World Records (GWR) has issued a statement clarifying that it no longer recognizes records for extended eating marathons, following recent claims by Ghanaian content creator Clementina Nkrumah, also known as Afua Nash.
Afua Nash had announced plans to attempt a four-day, seven-hour, and 20-minute non-stop eating marathon, set to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024, during a live segment of the Savage Room show at Afropod Studios, which she promoted via her Instagram page.
However, GWR responded to the announcement via its official Twitter account, stating that it no longer tracks such extended feats.
The organization explained that while it previously recorded durations for eating challenges, its current guidelines now focus on the rate of consumption rather than the length of the event.
Under the updated rules, attempts are generally capped at three minutes, depending on the type of food involved.
This clarification from Guinness World Records effectively debunks the claims of an extended eating marathon, marking a significant shift in the organization’s approach to food-related records.
