Deputy Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has shed light on the growing sentiment among Ghanaians regarding politicians’ lavish lifestyle.
According to Basintale, Ghanaians are not inherently opposed to politicians living luxuriously, but rather, they expect accountability and tangible benefits from their leaders.
In a recent interview on TV3, Basintale emphasized that the crux of the issue lies in the stark contrast between the struggles of ordinary Ghanaians and the opulent lives of politicians.
He cited the example of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s use of a private jet at the expense of Ghanaian taxpayers, despite widespread complaints and concerns.

Basintale noted that many young Ghanaians are struggling to make ends meet, with limited job opportunities and a bleak economic outlook.
Meanwhile, politicians seem to be living their best lives, which has created a sense of disillusionment and frustration among the populace.
The NDC deputy communications director stressed that the recent loss of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should serve as a lesson to all politicians.
He emphasized that Ghanaians are willing to accept politicians’ luxurious lifestyles, but only if they demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
“If you want to buy a jetski or a ship, that’s fine,” Basintale said. “But Ghanaians will only accept that if you’ve done something for us first. If you continue to prioritize your own interests over ours, we will rise against you.”
