Gov’t Declares August 5 A Holiday In Ghana

The Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, has announced that Monday, August 5th, 2024, will be observed as a public holiday nationwide.

This decision comes as Founders’ Day, a statutory public holiday, falls on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.

In a statement, the Minister explained that the President has issued an Executive Instrument (E.I) in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), declaring the additional public holiday.

August 5 Holiday In Ghana

Founders’ Day is a national public holiday that commemorates the contributions of all individuals, particularly the “Big Six”, who played a crucial role in Ghana’s independence struggle.

Previously known as “Founder’s Day”, the holiday was celebrated to mark the achievements of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The government has advised the general public to observe this holiday nationwide.
