Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has made it clear that he will only accept the results of the 2024 presidential election if the process is fair and transparent.
In an exclusive interview with BBC, Mahama stated that if the election is marred by widespread ballot snatching, beating of people, military intimidation, and other forms of violence, he will not accept the results.
Mahama’s warning comes just three days before Ghanaians head to the polls to elect their next leader.
The election is expected to be a closely contested one, with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking to break the eight-year cycle of political parties in the country, while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is hoping to return to power.
Mahama, who is the presidential candidate for the NDC, has been crisscrossing the country, campaigning and outlining his vision for Ghana’s future.
He has promised to restore the economy, create jobs, and improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
In a recent speech, Mahama outlined his plans for a 24-hour economy, which he believes will boost productivity, meet demand, and generate well-paying jobs for Ghanaians.
He has also promised to reduce the size of government, abolish the payment of ex-gratia, and scrap taxes like the e-levy.
