Mohammed Kudus has been named captain of the Black Stars for their upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Sudan, stepping in for the injured Thomas Partey.
The announcement by head coach Otto Addo marks Kudus’s first time wearing the captain’s armband for Ghana. The Black Stars are set to face Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, 2024, with the return leg in Libya five days later.
Kudus, who has made 36 appearances for the national team and scored 11 goals since his debut in 2019, will lead a squad that has seen changes due to the absence of senior players like Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey.
His appointment signals a shift towards youth leadership within the team as Ghana looks to bounce back from a challenging start to the qualifiers, having suffered a defeat and a draw in their previous matches.
Fans are eager to see how Kudus will guide the Black Stars through these critical games, with victory essential to improving their standing in the group.
Will Kudus deliver? Only time will tell.
