Mahama Meets Akufo-Addo With Transition Team Ahead Of Inauguration

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama met at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, to discuss the transition process.

The meeting marked the beginning of a seamless transfer of power, scheduled to be inaugurated later in the day.

During the meeting, President-elect Mahama introduced members of his transition team to President Akufo-Addo. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mahama emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth transition to maintain Ghana’s democratic credentials.

“All of it is in order to make sure that our nation, Ghana, continues to march forward as a functioning, effective, democratic state,” he stated.

The two leaders also discussed the ongoing lawlessness in some parts of the country. President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation for Mahama’s intervention, urging his supporters and the nation to maintain peace and order.

Mahama noted that the President briefed him on the security situation and the economy, adding that the transitional team will delve further into these matters.

The meeting was described as cordial, with both leaders committing to working together to ensure a seamless transition. “Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues to do with the economy,” Mahama stated.

This development comes after President Akufo-Addo congratulated Mahama on his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election. The President assured Mahama of his commitment to ensuring a smooth transfer of power on January 7, 2025.

The international community has also congratulated Mahama on his victory. President Samia Suluhu Alhassan of Tanzania extended her heartfelt congratulations, expressing her commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Tanzania and Ghana.

The Pan African Parliament also congratulated Mahama, acknowledging his distinguished ties with the continental body.
