John Dramani Mahama has officially taken the oath of office as the President of the Republic of Ghana, marking the beginning of his second term.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo administered the oath, with Mahama affirming his commitment to serve the people of Ghana and uphold the Constitution.
The event was attended by a diverse gathering of dignitaries, including heads of state, diplomats, and representatives of international organizations, all of whom came to congratulate Mahama on his return to office.
Mahama’s victory in the December 7 elections was decisive, earning him a broad mandate from the electorate and signaling widespread confidence in his leadership. As the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama’s second term is expected to focus on addressing pressing issues such as:
- Youth Unemployment: Creating jobs and opportunities for Ghana’s young population
- Economic Recovery: Revitalizing the economy and promoting sustainable growth
- Healthcare: Improving access to quality healthcare services for all Ghanaians
- Infrastructure Development: Investing in critical infrastructure projects to drive development and growth
The ceremony also witnessed the historic swearing-in of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the Vice President of Ghana, making her the first woman to hold the position in the country’s history.
Mahama’s administration aims to foster an inclusive political environment, where every Ghanaian has the opportunity to thrive.
The smooth transition of power and the peaceful nature of the inauguration serve as a testament to Ghana’s strong democratic practices, reinforcing the nation’s reputation as one of the most stable democracies in Africa.
