Mahama Reveals What He Will Tackle First When He Starts Work As The Next President

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has identified the conflict in Bawku as a top priority for his administration, which is set to take office on January 7, 2025.

Speaking to the media at his office, Mahama emphasized the urgent need to address the situation, citing the proximity of Bawku to terrorist activities in the region.

Mahama attributed the current instability in Bawku to security lapses under the outgoing government, which he said had undermined the peace that had been maintained in the area.

He assured the public that his administration would tackle the issue head-on, working to calm tensions and promote understanding between the conflicting parties.

The president-elect noted that the conflict in Bawku is not only a local issue but also a national security concern, given the potential for terrorist infiltration.

“Bawku is particularly sensitive because of the external terrorist threats,” Mahama explained. “If there will be any likely incursion, the unstable nature in the Bawku area will create grounds for penetration.”

Mahama expressed confidence that his administration can bring peace to Bawku by promoting dialogue and understanding between the conflicting parties.

“Nobody benefits from conflict,” he emphasized. “Maprusi businesses have been affected, Kusal businesses have also been affected. People want peace so that they can go about their businesses.”

This is not the first time Mahama has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the needs of the Bawku community.

During his campaign, he promised to consider the demand for a new region, hospital, and university for the Kusaug people.
