In a bold move to revamp Ghana’s educational system, President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish a National Education Reform Committee.
The committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the country’s educational sector, encompassing all levels of education, from basic to tertiary.
Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba on Thursday, January 9, President Mahama emphasized the importance of reforms to enhance the quality and accessibility of education in Ghana.
He noted that the review will identify the hindrances to quality education at each level, paving the way for targeted interventions.
The President’s plan includes setting up a planning committee to work on the National Education Review Conference.
This conference will bring together stakeholders to review the educational system, from kindergarten to technical and vocational education.
In addition to the National Education Reform Committee, President Mahama’s administration has pledged to sustain and enhance the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. The government also plans to address overcrowding in schools, complete abandoned projects, and improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Other initiatives include providing free tuition for first-year students entering public tertiary institutions and investing in equitable learning opportunities nationwide.
The President believes that these measures will empower Ghana’s youth with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly changing world.
As the government embarks on this comprehensive education reform, Ghanaians eagerly await the outcomes, hoping for a brighter future for the country’s educational sector.
