A chilling case of human trafficking has come to light in the Central region, where a 30-year-old man, Nana Kofi Amofa, was arrested for attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece for a staggering GHC150,000 in exchange for a Canadian visa.
The Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit (PID) apprehended Amofa on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Gomoa Buduburam, near Obolo Estate, following a tip-off about his sinister intentions.
Posing as potential buyers, police officers negotiated a deal with Amofa, who demanded GHC150,000.
Upon his arrest, he confessed to planning to sell his niece, who was lured into his care under false promises of better education.
The child and Amofa have been handed over to the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.
This heinous case underscores the need for constant vigilance and swift action against human trafficking and exploitation. The police are praised for their prompt response and arrest of the suspect.
