A young kayaker, Adrián Simancas, had a near-death experience when a humpback whale briefly swallowed him before spitting him out in Bahía El Águila, Chilean Patagonia.
The shocking incident, which took place on February 13, 2025, was captured on video by his father, who was kayaking alongside him.
Experts suggest that the whale likely mistook the kayak for a school of fish and had no intention of harming the human inside.

Fortunately, Adrián remained calm, which may have contributed to his survival as the whale quickly released him.
Marine biologists emphasize that such encounters are extremely rare, as whales are not known to target humans.
The footage has since gone viral, sparking discussions on marine safety and the need for greater awareness when kayaking in whale-populated waters.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, Adrián expressed gratitude for the experience, calling it a “once-in-a-lifetime” brush with nature’s power.
