A violent confrontation broke out yesterday evening between youths from Techiman and Nkoranza, resulting in multiple injuries, including a child.
The incident occurred around 5 pm when a convoy of buses returning from Nkoranza to Kumasi, escorting the Asantehene from a funeral, was attacked by Techiman youths.
Eyewitnesses report that the convoy had blocked the highway at Amamfom, chanting, “There is no man in Techiman.” This act allegedly provoked the Techiman youth, who retaliated by attacking the buses.
The violent clash resulted in injuries, with victims receiving medical attention. The Ghana Police Service has yet to comment on the incident, but tensions remain high between the two communities.
It is worth noting that Techiman youths had earlier issued threats to attack anyone using the route through Techiman. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of travelers on the highway.
The Asantehene’s office has also not commented on the incident. However, sources close to the palace have condemned the violence and called for calm between the two communities.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an end to the violence and a return to peaceful coexistence between the two communities.
As the situation remains tense, the Ghana Police Service is urged to take swift action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
