Real Madrid took huge strides against Atlanta towards the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League thanks to Ferland Mendy’s late right-footed blast from outside the penalty area, a goal that earned them a 1-0 victory away from home.

This was after Atlanta’s Remo Freuler was controversially sent off just 17 minutes into the first half for a challenge on Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy.

The Spanish side however had to wait till the 86th minute to break the deadlock to give them a healthy advantage ahead of the second leg in Spain in 3 weeks.
