COCOBOD CEO Steps Down Amidst Sector Shake-Up

Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has officially stepped down from his role following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.

The resignation, effective January 7, 2025, is part of a broader move to dissolve all boards of State-Owned Enterprises under the president’s administration.

Aidoo’s tenure, spanning eight years, was marked by significant challenges in the cocoa industry, including declining production levels and financial difficulties.

Critics frequently questioned his leadership and decision-making, pointing to issues like delayed payments to farmers and rising operational costs.

However, Aidoo has repeatedly denied responsibility, attributing the sector’s struggles to external factors, including climate change and global market volatility.

In his statement, Aidoo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and maintained his commitment to Ghana’s cocoa farmers.

Meanwhile, industry stakeholders are hopeful that the upcoming leadership transition will bring innovative solutions to revitalize the sector.

As Ghana remains one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, the resignation marks a pivotal moment for the industry.

Farmers and industry players alike are eagerly watching for the government’s next steps in stabilizing and advancing the cocoa sector.
