Polio Outbreak: Ghana ‘Under Health Emergency’ After A Decade

News privy to us indicates that Ghana is currently under “Public Health Emergency of National Concern” after news of latest polio outbreak surfaced in northern Ghana.

It’s been over a decade since a case of polio was recorded. The latest outbreak was in a torn called Chereponi in the region.

In a statement by the Ghana Health Service, a sample of the infectious disease was taken from a little girl age two years.

Health officials have now been deployed from the capital Accra to assist in dealing with the situation.

Ghana has also announced its intention to start a vaccination exercise in and around surrounding Chereponi community.

Earlier this year in July, health officials in the country announced the detection of a rare type of polop called the poliovirus type-2.

The said detection was discovered in Tamale, the Northern part of the country as well.

The Ghana Health Service officials believed the virus at that time was Brough into the country by a migrant.
