OccupyGh.com reports of a 40-year-old man who was knocked down dead by a vehicle which run over him at the Madina-Okponglo road.
The 40-year-old is said to have been a newspaper vendor who hawks his trade of selling newspaper on the Madina-Okponglo road.
The victim’s name was given as Eben, he was said to have been hawking on the street with other traders as a vehicle veered off the road, knocking him down to his untimely death.
A recounts by one of the hawkers explains of hearing a loud sound behind her, she recounted of turning as she runs for her life only to see a car which has veered off the main road heading towards them.
“I turned and saw the newspaper vendor on the ground and the Jeep which had two occupants was in a nearby gutter. The driver and the passenger jumped out of the window before the traffic warden came to the scene.
“The way the body was lying without movement, I knew he died instantly,” Another eye witness recounted.
Eben was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital only to be pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking to one of the hawkers, she explained that this is not the first time an incident of such has happened. She further stated how the Ghana police has clashed with them on several occasion trying to stop them from hawker not that street.
