Despite securing a GH¢50 million bail condition with valid property documentation from Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is spending the weekend in EOCO custody.

The delay stems from an unexpected bail variation application filed at the High Court by legal practitioner Gary Nimako Marfo, which halted the vetting process of Acheampong’s documents by EOCO.

Ironically, the property tendered as surety reportedly exceeds the bail requirement, yet legal technicalities have kept Wontumi behind bars.

His lead counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi, expressed surprise upon learning of the bail review application only on Friday evening.

The High Court is expected to rule on the variation application on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, unless Mr. Marfo withdraws it sooner.

Until then, EOCO has suspended the document verification process, prolonging Wontumi’s detention.

The embattled chairman is under investigation for serious charges, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, according to Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai.
