Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims Can Vote Without ID - Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a special provision for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

In light of the recent flooding caused by the controlled spillage of the Akosombo Dam and the Kpong Dam by the Volta River Authority, residents in affected areas will be allowed to vote even if they don’t possess voters’ ID cards.

The Akosombo Dam Spillage Flood has led to the widespread displacement of over 4,000 residents in the southeastern region of Ghana.

As a result, the EC is making this exception to ensure that flood victims can exercise their voting rights.

This decision by the EC aims to ensure that the fundamental democratic right to vote is preserved for all eligible citizens, even in the face of exceptional circumstances such as the recent floods.
