The National Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will convene today, July 4, to discuss Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as his running mate for the December 7 general elections.
According to Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the NPP, this meeting is a constitutional requirement, as stated in Article 13 of the party’s constitution.
Meanwhile, Malik Basintale, Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized NAPO’s suitability as Bawumia’s running mate, citing his lack of qualifications, poor track record, and perceived arrogance.
Dr. Bawumia had previously met with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to discuss his choice and has also informed the NPP leadership and the Parliament’s Majority caucus.
The meeting today will provide an opportunity for Dr. Bawumia to justify his selection of NAPO as his running mate.
