The Ghanaian singer Sherif Ismail Mohammed, also known as Black Sherif, has provided an explanation for his frequent use of the names “Kwaku,” “Frimpong,” and “Kwaku Killa (KK)” in his work.

“As you can see, I frequently use Kwaku, KK,” he said.

In an interview with Spotify RADAR Africa that was published on YouTube on December 14, 2022, he said, in a voice that was almost raspy, “I used to get bullied for that.”

He laughed and tugged at his beard some more.

He gave an example of what his attackers would say as to why he was targeted due to his choice of name.

“How are you, a Muslim, calling yourself Frimpong?” he said.

Meanwhile, he admitted that he didn’t enjoy the Frimpong name, despite the fact that his father’s name was Frimpong, because of the trolls.

But after finishing high school, he realized that the name represented “my identity.”

Moreover, he gave an explanation of his resolve, saying, “Due to that background, I have always felt I had to accomplish something; I have an obligation to pay my dues, so that name would be acknowledged and honored.”

I rarely encounter Sherif Muhammed Ismail because of this.“I wrote a lot of songs in about eight weeks, and in about 80% of them, I found myself repeating ‘Kwaku’ a lot,” Black Sherif added.

Furthermore, he claimed that he was shocked to learn that, when writing songs, his chosen stage name is actually Kwaku Frimpong. He is currently Ghana’s most rapidly rising musical talent.
