BREAK: Former Labour Minister Awuah Among Three Arrested Over Fatal Nsoatreman-Kotoko Clashes

Former Labour Minister and Sunyani West MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah, along with Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph, has been arrested by the Ghana Police following violent clashes during a football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025.

The disturbances, which tragically resulted in one death, have prompted a swift law enforcement response.

A search of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu’s room yielded two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol loaded with 15 rounds, intensifying the investigation.

Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and to the leadership of Asante Kotoko, assuring that a thorough inquiry is underway.

A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters has been deployed to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in resolving the case.

This incident has sparked a national debate on the need for enhanced security at sporting events and stricter enforcement of safety protocols.

Political leaders and community stakeholders are urging rapid action to prevent similar tragedies in the future and to restore public confidence in event security.
