BREAK: Four Ghanaians Jailed for Smuggling £4.3M Cannabis into Essex, Jailed 26 Years

Four Ghanaian men have been sentenced to a combined 26 years in prison for smuggling £4.3 million worth of cannabis into south Essex from Ghana.

The substantial haul was discovered by UK Border Force officers in a shipping container at Tilbury Docks, following a strategic sting operation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Southwark Crown Court handed down the sentences, with Daniel Yeboah receiving five years and Edward Adjei, 48, from Grays, sentenced to four years.

Kristoffen Baidoo, 48, who failed to appear at the trial, was sentenced in absentia to 10 years. Kwaku Bonsu, 52, also evaded jurisdiction before sentencing and was given seven years in his absence.

The NCA has expressed commitment to apprehending Baidoo and Bonsu, both of whom remain at large.

This case highlights the NCA’s ongoing efforts to combat organized drug trafficking networks attempting to exploit the UK’s ports.
