The military juntas in Burkina Faso and Mali have issued a stern warning to any attempt at forcibly restoring President Mohamed Bazoum to power in Niger.
The two countries responded strongly to a threat from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regarding possible measures if the Nigerien president was not reinstated.
In a joint statement, Burkina Faso and Mali asserted that any military intervention by ECOWAS would be considered a declaration of war on them.
They further emphasized that such action could have catastrophic consequences and lead to regional destabilization.
The juntas even went as far as stating their intention to withdraw from ECOWAS and come to the defense of their eastern neighbor if necessary.
