Chief Jailed 3 Months For Stealing Over Ghs2 Million Meant For Community Development

The chief of Banka, Osabarima Twiampomah III, has been sentenced to three months in prison and fined GH¢24,000 for embezzling $150,000 meant for community development projects.

The 65-year-old chief was found guilty of stealing funds provided by Gulf Coast Resources Company Ltd. as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The court’s decision has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and disappointment at the chief’s betrayal.

According to reports, the chief had initially denied receiving the funds, only to later confess to receiving the $150,000 cheque. Despite his attempts to defend himself, the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence, leading to his conviction.

Justice Comfort K. Tasiame’s ruling serves as a stern warning to public officials who abuse their positions for personal gain.

The sentence also includes a fine of 2,000 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢24,000, which must be paid within a specified timeframe to avoid an additional five-year prison term.

This case highlights the need for transparency and accountability in local governance, ensuring that community funds are used for their intended purpose.
