Dengue fever in Ghana is widely spreading to the central region with 36 reported cases. This is slowly growing into an outbreak.
What’s the Dengue Fever:
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions around the world.
What are the symptoms:
- Fever: Sudden high fever.
- Pain: Severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain (often referred to as “breakbone fever”).
- Rash: A red rash that can cover much of the body.
- Nausea and Vomiting: Common gastrointestinal symptoms.
- Mild Bleeding
Dengue fever can be lethal, particularly if it progresses to its more severe forms, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS). It is spread through mosquito bites and it is highly advisable to stay safe.
