EC Reprints Ballots for Eastern, Western Regions; Special Voting Postponed

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has recalled and ordered the reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions following the discovery of a defaced ballot paper outside the printing facility.

The incident prompted immediate action to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. As part of the response, special voting in these regions, originally set for December 2, 2024, has been rescheduled to December 5, 2024.

To prevent similar breaches, the EC announced that enhanced security features would be included in the reprinted ballots, and different companies—Dark Press and Innolink—have been tasked with the production.

Political parties have been consulted and have endorsed the EC’s measures, emphasizing the need for a transparent process. The compromised ballots will be destroyed in a controlled burning, with officials monitoring the process.

Despite the delay in the two regions, special voting in other parts of Ghana will proceed as planned.

The EC has reassured the public of its commitment to upholding electoral credibility, urging voters to remain confident in the process.

These measures reflect a proactive effort to ensure that the December 7, 2024, elections are conducted with fairness and integrity.
