In a tragic incident at Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State, a female student is reported to have murdered her newborn baby in the school’s hostel.
The student allegedly gave birth in a hostel toilet on Monday, June 10, and then threw the baby from the top floor of a three-storey building.
A video from the scene shows the newborn’s body lying on the concrete below, with two students attempting to wrap the baby and the discarded placenta in a towel. Other students can be seen watching and condemning the mother’s actions.
Another video captures a large crowd of students gathering to glimpse the 200-level student as she was escorted away by school authorities.
The university’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Bello, confirmed the incident, assuring that the university promptly notified the authorities. Bello clarified that the student’s pregnancy did not occur during her time at the university, as the academic session had just resumed.
Immediate medical attention was provided to the student following the incident.
“The university administration is conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary measures to address the situation,” Bello stated.
