A tragic incident occurred yesterday in Manso Adubia, Amansie South District, Ashanti Region, where a 30-year-old illegal miner, Kwadwo Owusu, drowned in a small excavator trench during a break from mining activities.
Eyewitnesses reported that Owusu, who was working as a “Galamsey” operator, may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident, which they believe contributed to his fatal fall into the trench.
Fellow miners rushed to his aid but were unable to save him. The local police have since transported Owusu’s body to the mortuary for further examination and investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for safety measures and oversight in illegal mining operations, which continue to pose risks to lives and the environment.
