Ghana has marked the 77th anniversary of the 1948 Christiansborg Crossroads Shooting Incident, a defining moment in the country’s fight for independence.
A solemn ceremony was held at the newly established Nationalism Park in Accra, where government officials, military leaders, and traditional rulers paid tribute to the fallen heroes.
The commemoration honored Sgt. Adjetey, Cpl. Attipoe, and Pte. Odartey Lamptey, three ex-servicemen who were shot by British colonial police while peacefully protesting for unpaid benefits.
Their sacrifice sparked nationwide resistance, ultimately leading to Ghana’s independence in 1957.
Wreaths were laid, and a historical reenactment was performed to educate younger generations about the significance of their bravery.
President Nana Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of remembering these events, urging Ghanaians to uphold the values of patriotism and justice.
The ceremony reinforced the nation’s commitment to preserving its history and recognizing the contributions of those who fought for freedom.
