Ghana’s Standard of Living Surpasses UK’s Despite Hardship — Chairman Wontumi

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sparked discussion by asserting that Ghana’s standard of living is better than that of the United Kingdom, despite acknowledged hardships.

Wontumi recognizes the global nature of the current economic difficulties but points out that Ghana’s plentiful food supply and relatively lower cost of living make it a more favorable place to reside compared to the UK.

He illustrated his point by noting that in the UK, party attendees often need to bring their own food and drinks, while in Ghana, such events typically offer food in abundance.

He argued that although incomes in the UK might be higher, the steep cost of living there diminishes personal savings significantly.

Wontumi called on journalists to convey the reality that economic hardship is a worldwide issue, exacerbated by factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“We are better off in Ghana,” he asserted, emphasizing Ghana’s relatively better access to healthcare and other essential services. His remarks have ignited a debate about the comparative standards of living between Ghana and the UK.
