I’ve relocated to Germany because Ghana is not safe for LGBTQ+ — Angel Maxine

Ghanaian transgender musician, Angel Maxine, has revealed her relocation to Germany due to the challenging conditions faced by the LGBT+ community in Ghana.

Maxine cited difficulties in pursuing her regular activities, stating, “I had to leave Ghana to find a safe space to continue my work.”

She recounted the hardships of being openly transgender in Ghana, where discrimination was pervasive, hindering her mobility and professional opportunities.

Expressing concern for the safety of LGBT+ individuals in Ghana, Maxine hoped for future societal changes.

She lamented the political landscape surrounding LGBTQ rights in Ghana and expressed a desire for a future where queer individuals could live openly and contribute positively to society.

Maxine’s decision to move coincided with the approval of an anti-LGBT+ bill by Ghana’s parliament, which awaits the president’s approval pending constitutional challenges in the Supreme Court.
