President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive to immediately halt all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands.
This move aims to safeguard these lands for the benefit of all citizens and future generations.
The directive, communicated by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, mandates that all ongoing and pending transactions be stopped without delay.
This pause will facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of state and public lands.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission has been tasked with submitting a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions concerning these lands. The report is expected to be submitted to the Office of the President within 14 days.

This directive is seen as a strategic move to address longstanding concerns about irregularities and lack of transparency in allocating state and public land.
By halting all sales and leases, the government is signaling a firm commitment to promoting accountability and safeguarding national resources.
The President’s decision aligns with his campaign promise to curb corruption and improve efficiency across public institutions.
Stakeholders and civil society groups have previously raised concerns about the management of state and public lands, and this move is expected to restore public confidence in land administration.
