MP Hawa Koomson Shares Bottles of Cooking Oil in Kasoa Two Weeks to 2024 Election

With just two weeks to Ghana’s elections, Hon. Hawa Koomson, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, has stirred controversy by distributing bottles of cooking oil to women in Kasoa.

A viral video shows women queuing to receive a single bottle each, an act that has sparked heated conversations online.

Critics have labeled the gesture as a shallow election tactic, questioning the authenticity of her commitment to the constituency.

Social media reactions have been swift, with users like @_sevenn6 calling it “nonsense” and others urging voters to “collect and reject” such moves.

Another user, @styles_jp8, lamented the repetitive nature of such strategies, saying, “These are the people determining the next president, and their votes are worth a bottle of oil...”

Supporters of Hon. Koomson, however, argue that the gesture might be aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by constituents, particularly women.

This episode highlights the recurring debate on the use of gifts in political campaigns and its impact on voter decision-making.

Netizens reacted:

@_sevenn6:
It’s always the NPP party doing this nonsense

Not even boxes single 1 single 1 tactics. She no shy self. As for collecting I will urge them to collect and reject any politician who does this move. Cos if you have truly worked you won’t resort to these shallow election tactics

@styles_jp8:
These are the people who are going to determine who the next president of Ghana is and their votes are worth a bottle of cooking oil.
Same strategy very year! Y’agyimi too much.

@_Roofman2131gh:
This is disrespectful… but that’s how low politicians look at us.
No real message,no intent to improve lives,just give them rice and oil,that’s it.
