Just In: Over 300,000 People Tested Positive

Over 300,000 people tested positive for HIV/AIDS in 2019.
An estimated number of 342,307 people have been said to be living with HIV in the country at the end of 2019.

Out of the 342,307 people, 122,321 representing 36 percent are men, while 219,986 representing 64 percent are women. This was contained in Ghana’s HIV Fact Sheet 2019 by the Ghana Aids Commission (GAC) and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

It had been reported that more than 142,000 Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Ghana do not know their status because they have not tested, says the Ghana Aids.

It also revealed that more than 46,000 Ghanaians who knew their status were not on life-saving treatment (ARVs).

Per the data from the 2019 National and Sub-National Estimates and Projections by the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) 11,733 deaths more would be averted by end of 2020 and projects a further 14,628 in 2021.

It said out of the number 316,352 representing 92 percent were adults aged 15 years and above and 25,955 representing 8 percent were children aged 14 years and below.
