Police Officer Drowns While Taking a Bath in River

A police officer tragically met his death on Wednesday, August 5, after drowning in a River Awach, Homa Bay County where he had gone to take a bath.

The officer was attached to Kosele Police Post in Rachuonyo South Sub County and had gone to refresh himself at around 1 p.m.

He was identified as Constable Godfrey Odhiambo Juma and was in the company of several other police officers.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, nominated MCA Nereah Amondi confirmed the incident and claimed that the police officer was drunk.

“The incident is indeed true, I am told that he was drunk when he had gone for the bath in the company of other officers,” she noted.

The winner of the TV series, Ms. President also cleared the air on reports that the police officer had gone for a swim reiterating that he had gone for a bath.

Investigations have since been launched into the death of the 30-year-old police officer to establish the true cause of his demise.

Reports indicate that after the bath he sought to swim with his colleagues but could not rescue himself while his attempts to stay afloat proved futile. River Awach is a few kilometers away from police posts and has been used as a source of water by residents and police officers attached to the station.

The area has constantly suffered from a water shortage that has led to over-dependence on the river.

The number of people drowning in rivers has been on the rise as a woman taking photos with her brother at Thompson Falls, Nyahururu County, slipped and fell in the river on Monday, July 27.
