Residents Collect Spilled Palm Oil After Oil Truck Spillage At Winneba Roundabout

Pandemonium ensued at the Winneba roundabout on the Kasoa-Cape Coast highway yesterday as a truck carrying palm oil lost control and spilled its contents across the busy intersection.

The large volume of spilled oil quickly attracted a swarm of local residents, many of whom rushed to the scene armed with gallons and other containers to collect the valuable commodity.

Footage circulating online captures the chaotic aftermath, showing scores of people, predominantly women, scooping up the spilled palm oil. This opportunistic behavior has raised concerns among authorities, who have warned the public against such actions.

Experts caution that the mass collection of spilled oil can lead to serious issues, potentially clogging drains, causing slippery road conditions, and posing health risks to those who consume the contaminated product.

The incident has also resulted in significant traffic congestion in the area as emergency crews work to clear the scene and restore normalcy.

Local officials have urged residents to exercise restraint and allow the relevant authorities to handle the situation properly. The truck driver’s condition and the cause of the accident remain under investigation.
