Thief Forced To Clean Gutters & Lift Weights As Punishment In Kasoa

A 25-year-old man named Yaw Abraham has been arrested by the youth of Ayibge Town, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East, for stealing a mobile phone.

The suspect is reported to have sneaked into a woman’s room while she was washing her clothes behind her house and made away with the phone, which was worth GHC1,300. He later sold it for just GHC300.

The youth of the area later caught up with Abraham, who confessed to stealing the phone. They took matters into their own hands and meted out punishment to him. The punishment they gave him was unique and appropriate to the crime.

The young man was forced to desilt gutters in the area and to lift heavy metals in a makeshift gym, while being lashed by the youth.

While some may argue that the punishment was too severe, others may argue that it is appropriate considering the rampant increase of theft in the area. This punishment can serve as a deterrent to other potential thieves in the area, who may now think twice before committing such crimes.

It is important to note, however, that it is not legal to take the law into one’s own hands. Law enforcement agencies should be informed of such incidents, and perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted through the legal system.

The youth who took matters into their own hands could have potentially faced legal consequences themselves.

In conclusion, the punishment meted out to the phone thief by the youth of Ayibge Town, while unconventional, sends a strong message to potential thieves in the area. It is, however, important to let the legal system take its course in such incidents.
