A video has surfaced showing some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Mahama, expressing happiness over the death of Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
This reaction starkly contrasts with the widespread shock and melancholy expressed by most Ghanaians following her sudden demise.
Akua Donkor, a renowned Ghanaian politician, passed away on October 28, 2024, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, after a brief illness. Despite her human frailties and mistakes, she earned respect from many Ghanaians, who are now mourning her loss.

However, the NDC supporters in the video were seen saying they are “extremely happy” that Akua Donkor has passed away, using phrases like “bought her ticket to the land of silence.” This reaction has raised eyebrows, highlighting the divisive nature of Ghanaian politics.
The GFP leader was known for her determination to become Ghana’s first female president and her advocacy for marginalized communities. Her legacy continues to inspire many, despite the differing opinions about her politics.
