
<p>Priscilla Asante, a 15-year-old kidney patient from Ghana who had appealed for assistance so she could pay for her pricey dialysis treatment, has passed away.</p>



<p>Asante passed away in the early hours of Sunday, according to Joy News, which covered the story of her struggle.</p>



<p>The deceased woman&#8217;s mother claimed that her daughter, who was being treated at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, had ballooned before she passed away.</p>



<p>When she discovered that and contacted her doctor about it, she was informed that it was a sign that her daughter&#8217;s kidneys had failed on both sides.</p>



<p>Soon after that, she tragically passed away.</p>



<p>Joy News had previously written about the plight of Priscilla, a JHS student from an extremely low-income household.</p>



<p>She had made an appeal for money to cover the costs of her expensive dialysis treatment, which had suddenly climbed to more than Ghc 700 per week.</p>



<p>The hospital is even in debt to the family, according to Priscilla&#8217;s mother, and must be paid before her daughter&#8217;s remains can be returned to her.</p>



<p>The revelation of the startling near 100% increase in the cost of the medication has recently brought the situation of kidney failure patients to the fore.</p>
