A 15-Year-Old Ghanaian Kidney Patient Who Begged For Assistance To Afford Dialysis Has Passed Away (Details)

Priscilla Asante, a 15-year-old kidney patient from Ghana who had appealed for assistance so she could pay for her pricey dialysis treatment, has passed away.

Asante passed away in the early hours of Sunday, according to Joy News, which covered the story of her struggle.

The deceased woman’s mother claimed that her daughter, who was being treated at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, had ballooned before she passed away.

When she discovered that and contacted her doctor about it, she was informed that it was a sign that her daughter’s kidneys had failed on both sides.

Soon after that, she tragically passed away.

Joy News had previously written about the plight of Priscilla, a JHS student from an extremely low-income household.

She had made an appeal for money to cover the costs of her expensive dialysis treatment, which had suddenly climbed to more than Ghc 700 per week.

The hospital is even in debt to the family, according to Priscilla’s mother, and must be paid before her daughter’s remains can be returned to her.

The revelation of the startling near 100% increase in the cost of the medication has recently brought the situation of kidney failure patients to the fore.
