
<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>A group of concerned youth in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region has taken decisive action against illegal miners destroying rivers with &#8216;changfan&#8217; machines.</strong></p>



<p>These makeshift dredging machines are notorious for digging into riverbeds, causing severe pollution and threatening aquatic ecosystems.</p>



<p>In a bold move captured on video, the youth stormed a mining site, confronting operators and demanding an immediate halt to their activities.</p>

<p>They ordered the illegal miners to dismantle their machines and vacate the riverbanks, emphasizing the long-term environmental damage being caused.</p>



<p>Residents have hailed the youth’s actions, urging authorities to back them with stronger enforcement to protect the Birim and other rivers under threat.</p>



<p>Environmental activists have long warned that unchecked galamsey will leave communities without clean drinking water and devastate biodiversity.</p>



<p>The confrontation underscores a growing grassroots resistance to illegal mining as locals take matters into their own hands.</p>
