An abroad-based Nigerian lady has taken to social media in great pain after finding out that all the money she’s been sending home to her brother got squandered.
In a tearful video that has since gone viral, the lady narrated how she had been sending funds to her brother to buy land and build a house for their family in their village, but he failed to deliver on his promise.
The lady explained that she had been sending money to her brother for some time and had asked for progress reports on the building project, but he kept giving excuses and stalling.
When she asked for photos of the project, he claimed not to have a good phone, so she sent him money to buy one.
Despite sending him the money, he still failed to provide photos or any other proof of progress on the project. The lady became suspicious and asked for the land documents, but her brother gave flimsy excuses and refused to hand them over.
According to the lady, the incident happened in November, and she had sent her brother N700,000 for the foundation of the house.
However, when she contacted a friend in Nigeria to check on the project, her worst fears were confirmed. Her brother had squandered all the money and was drinking and making merry with friends.
The lady’s brother’s behavior is not only disappointing but also highlights a common problem faced by Nigerians abroad who send money home to their families.
Many families rely on remittances from their loved ones abroad, but some unscrupulous family members take advantage of their goodwill and misuse the funds for their own selfish ends.
This incident is a wakeup call to Nigerians abroad to be vigilant and take steps to ensure that the money they send home is put to good use.
It also highlights the need for financial education and accountability among Nigerians, both at home and abroad.
