Accra Erupts As #StopGalamsey Protestors Sing ‘Nana Addo Baako, Corruption Bebree” In A Heated Jama Session

Frustrated citizens flooded Accra’s streets, demanding an end to galamsey, Ghana’s devastating illegal mining practice.

The protest, gaining momentum, targeted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration’s handling of the issue.

Chants of “Nana Addo baako, corruption bebr33” echoed through the streets, criticizing the president’s perceived failure to tackle widespread corruption fueling galamsey. The phrase, meaning “Nana Addo alone, but corruption is everywhere,” reflected the protesters’ frustration.

Placards bore emotional messages: “Save Our Lands, Save Our Future,” “Galamsey is Killing Us,” and “Nana, Act Now or Step Down.” These signs conveyed deep disappointment in the government’s inability to curb illegal mining, which ravages Ghana’s environment, particularly its rivers and forests.

The protest expanded beyond galamsey, expressing dissatisfaction with the ruling New Patriotic Party’s governance. Citizens demanded accountability and action, accompanied by drumming, singing, and spirited chants, creating a charged atmosphere.

This ongoing protest sends a strong message to the Akufo-Addo government: Ghanaians demand immediate action against illegal mining. As the movement grows on social media, citizens refuse to stay silent on environmental and political crises threatening Ghana’s future.

All eyes are on the government’s response to these calls for justice and reform.
