The Accra Sports Stadium has undergone extensive renovations, particularly to its pitch, ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifier between Ghana and Sudan on October 11, 2024.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) invested over GH¢200,000 into pitch improvements, including soil upgrades and advanced irrigation systems to meet international standards. Additional facility upgrades included revamped washrooms, dugouts, tunnel areas, and dressing rooms.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspected and approved the venue for the upcoming match but plans to reinspect after the game to assess maintenance.
Public opinion on the upgrades is mixed, with some expressing skepticism about the sustainability of the improvements.
However, sports experts and commentators have praised the efforts, hoping these enhancements will be maintained long-term.
Successfully hosting the match could boost the stadium’s chances of being a go-to venue for future international events.
