The 32nd African Cup of Nations commences today in the capital of Egypt (Cairo). Cameroon were the initial host of the competition but were stripped off the hosting right by CAF due to delay in their infrastructure and other factors as OccupyGh.com reported a couple of months back.
This will be the first AFCON to be held in June after a meeting in July 2017 by CAF to move it from the usual January/February to June/July and from 16 teams to 24 teams.
The last 4 editions have been tough for defending champions.

Egypt didn’t qualify in 2012, Zambia were eliminated in the group stage in 2013, Nigeria also missed out in 2015 and Ivory Coast got eliminated in 2017. Will Cameron be eliminated in the group stage or will they break the curse for the past 4 years? TIME WILL tell.
Madagascar, Burundi, Mauritania are the new addition to the AFCON. Will the “First timers” upset the big guns or will they be walk in the park.
See below the the teams in each group for AFCON 2019;
- GROUP A: Egypt, DR Congo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe
- GROUP B: Nigeria, Guinea, Madagascar, and Burundi
- GROUP C: Senegal, Algeria, Kenya, and Tanzania
- GROUP D: Morocco, Ivory Coast, South Africa, and Namibia
- GROUP E: Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania, and Angola
- GROUP F: Cameroon, Ghana, Benin, and Guinea-Bissau
