Along with his wife and a few of his business partners, Bob Menendez, a U.S. senator, has been charged with bribery and corruption-related offences.
Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes, as well as Asid the senator’s wife Nadine Arslanian Menendez and business associates.
Menendez and his wife are charged with taking “hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes” in return for their influence.
Gold, cash, home mortgage payments, remuneration for a “low-or-no-show job,” and a luxury automobile, according to the prosecution, were among the bribes offered.
According to CNN, a search of Bob Menenedez’s residence as part of the inquiry turned up about $500,000 in cash, including in packets concealed inside jackets bearing Menendez’s name.
A “luxury vehicle paid for by [Jose] Uribe parked in the garage,” as well as home decor from other business associates and gold bars, were also discovered by federal agents who examined Menendez’s house.
The case has been compared to that of Ghana’s own Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who is also indicted after large sums of cash were discovered at her home.
One person on social media speculated in response to Menendez’s indictment as to whether he would make some of the justifications Dapaah has made for the money discovered at her residence.
It might have been a present from his late sister’s grandparents, right?Or donations for funerals,” X User Akromah commented.
