In a grand ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, December 30, 2024, Ghana’s outgoing Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was conferred with the country’s highest honor, the “Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award.”
This prestigious award was presented by President Akufo-Addo at the 2024 National Honours event.
Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President for eight years, was recognized for his dedicated public service.
Despite being defeated in the recent presidential elections by former President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to the nation were acknowledged and celebrated.
Other notable awardees included Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 elections, who received the “Order of the Volta – Officer Awardee” for his public service.
JoyNews’ Erastus Asare Donkor was also honored with the prestigious “Order of the Volta (Membership) Award” for his outstanding journalism, particularly his efforts to expose illegal mining activities and environmental degradation.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, Ministers of State, and other high-ranking citizens and government officials.
The awards presented at the ceremony aimed to acknowledge the outstanding service, hard work, sacrifices, and contributions of the awardees to national development.
