Renowned Ghanaian actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizer, Kwaku Manu, has sparked intense debate with his claims that the party will prevent Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from running for president again.
Kwaku Manu’s assertions come amidst shifting power dynamics within the NPP, following former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s exit from office.
According to Kwaku Manu, Nana Addo’s influence as president elevated Dr. Bawumia’s status within the party.
However, with Nana Addo no longer in power, Manu believes the party’s influential members will use their wealth and influence to sideline Bawumia. “They feel like Nana Addo used his power as president to bring Dr. Bawumia into prominence. Now that he is no longer in power, they will use their money and influence to show that the party belongs to them,” Kwaku Manu stated.
Kwaku Manu also reflected on the changing dynamics within the party, suggesting that Nana Addo no longer commands the respect he once had during his presidency.
He noted that party members now feel emboldened to speak truth to power, telling Nana Addo that “when you’re on the seat, that’s when you have power. Since you’re no longer on the seat, nobody is scared of you.”
Furthermore, Kwaku Manu criticized Nana Addo’s handling of certain issues, particularly his dealings with traditional leaders. Manu believes that these interactions were inappropriate and contributed to Nana Addo’s diminishing influence within the party.
