
<p>Following the arrest of nonviolent protestors in the nation&#8217;s capital, Accra, police have been accused of acting like a dictator, calling Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a tyrant.</p>



<p>Today, September 21st 2023, activists organised the #OccupyJulorbiHouse (Julorbi, a corruption of Jubilee House, to wit: &#8220;son of a thief&#8221;) protest.</p>



<p>Police, however, dispersed the demonstration and apprehended individuals there; the majority of them were taken to a number of police stations scattered throughout the nation&#8217;s capital.</p>



<p>Online demonstrations have been prompted by the shocking violation of human rights by police officers.</p>



<p>President Akufo-Addo, who organised one of Ghana&#8217;s largest-ever protests, Kumi Preko, in 1995, has come under fire for directing police to break up a peaceful gathering.</p>



<p>People want to protest peacefully in opposition to your terrible regime. You&#8217;ve taken them into custody, taken their phones, and made sure that their lawyers can&#8217;t assist them. Do we live in a democracy? On X (previously Twitter), a user of social media stated, &#8220;#OccupyJulorbiHouse.&#8221;</p>



<p>We&#8217;ve just been arrested and taken to the Regional Office, one of the protesters named Nii Lexis posted on Twitter. This should not discourage you. They desired this, after all. Make every effort to ensure that everyone is safe. Let all men be judged by God. #OccupyJulorbiHouse,&#8221;</p>

<p>But probably the most egregious violation of human rights was seen on camera while one of the protesters was being taken away by police during his interview.</p>
